A good date night in Tacoma comes down to two questions: how hungry are you, and are you feeling lucky. My wife and I usually answer very to both. Tacoma has become one of our favorite places to get away for an evening, so here are the spots we actually go back to.
| Spot | Vibe | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Emerald Queen | Buffet + live entertainment + gaming | Eat, play, and have fun in one spot |
| Stanley & Seafort’s | Steak + seafood with a view | A dress-up special occasion |
| Cheesecake Factory | Huge menu + dessert built in | An easy, no-pressure date |
| McMenamins Elks Temple | 5 bars, wild art, hotel + scavenger hunt | A one-of-a-kind night (or overnight) |

Our go-to for dinner and a little fun. You can eat well, catch live entertainment, and try your luck all in one place. The Harvest Buffet is the star: my wife does not even like buffets, and she is all smiles here thanks to the huge variety of fresh food and desserts. On weekends it turns into a seafood buffet with crab and more. Best for a lively night out. Heads up, the casino floor can be smoky.
What locals say: buffet fans call it a “great buffet” with a “nice selection” and fresh crab on weekend nights.

A true Tacoma landmark perched on the hill with panoramic views over downtown and Commencement Bay. Steak, chops, and fresh seafood in a genuinely special setting. Best for a dress up, special occasion dinner.
What locals say: diners rave about the “fantastic view” and “excellent service,” with the king salmon and prime rib as standouts.

A reliable crowd pleaser at Tacoma Mall with a menu the size of a novel and, of course, the cheesecake. Great when you want variety and cannot agree on a craving. Best for an easy, no pressure date with dessert built in. It gets busy, so expect a short wait or call ahead.

This place is genuinely rad. A restored 1916 Elks lodge turned into a multi-level wonderland with five bars, including hidden ones like The Vault behind a secret door and a tiki spot by an indoor lagoon, the grand Spanish Ballroom, and wild, one-of-a-kind McMenamins artwork and murals covering every wall. There is even a hotel on site, so a date can easily turn into an overnight. Best for a fun, exploratory night with a lot to see.
Here is the date-night bonus: grab a McMenamins scavenger-hunt passport, pick up your clues at the front desk, and hunt down the hidden art throughout the building for a prize. It turns dinner and drinks into an actual adventure.
What locals say: one reviewer sums it up as “Gen X Disneyland.”
Half the fun of a Tacoma date is stringing a few things together: dinner with a view at Stanley and Seafort’s, a walk along Ruston Way or the waterfront, then dessert. Point Defiance Park and the Museum of Glass are both nearby if you want to add something to do before dinner.
Stanley and Seafort’s is the classic pick, with panoramic views over Commencement Bay and a steak and seafood menu made for celebrating.
The Emerald Queen Hotel and Casino combines dinner, the Harvest Buffet, live entertainment, and gaming all under one roof.
The Cheesecake Factory at Tacoma Mall is a no pressure crowd pleaser with a huge menu and dessert built right in.
A soft nudge from your friendly neighborhood photographer: Tacoma is not just for date nights, it is one of our favorite places to photograph couples, from the Point Defiance Rose Garden to Chambers Bay at golden hour. Couples spend years together and rarely get real photos that are not arm’s length selfies. As a Tacoma and Kitsap couples and engagement photographer, I guide the whole thing so it feels like a fun date. Reach out if this is your year.
Fully guided sessions, a professional editing team behind every image, and a private reveal where you choose finished artwork for your walls. That is the difference between hiring a photographer and booking an experience.
