More Than Hockey: The Billet Family Experience
Becoming a billet family for the Bremerton Sockeyes during the 2025–2026 season was a journey filled with unexpected joys and profound connections. Opening our home to junior hockey players, Chase from Colorado and Jusso from Finland, meant more than providing a place to stay. It was about nurturing dreams, supporting young athletes, and building lasting relationships. As billet families, we dedicate ourselves to creating an environment where players can focus on developing their skills while we, in turn, learn volumes from their stories and cultures.
Over the months, Chase and Juuso became integral parts of our family routine, blending seamlessly into our lives. They shared meals with us, participated in family game nights, and lived there day to day lives with us. This experience was enriched by learning about their diverse backgrounds and sharing everyday moments that created lasting memories. As Head Coach and GM Chad Olson often says, “Billet families are the backbone of the program,” and our journey affirmed his words. We witnessed firsthand how our support made a difference, not only in the lives of these young players but in our own as well.

Our involvement with the Bremerton Sockeyes was more than just about hockey; it was about embracing a spirit of community and collective passion. The Sockeyes’ impressive journey from a six-win season to a remarkable 22 victories, culminating in a playoff appearance, was a testament to the determination and talent of the players and the unwavering support of fans and families. This season, we experienced the thrill of watching Chase and Juuso contribute to this historic turnaround, each game a potent reminder of the dedication and hard work that defines the Bremerton Sockeyes hockey team.
