Stay Past Sunset. The Sky Has a Second Act.

Belfair State Park senior pictures of a high school senior in a cowboy hat reflected in still water at blue hour on Hood Canal. Photographed by Nautical Moments Photography.

The water was so calm it printed him a second copy.

Most sessions pack up when the sun drops. The best frame of this one happened after it did.

Blue hour is the twenty or thirty minutes right after sunset, and it is the most underrated light in senior pictures. The sky turns violet and electric blue instead of orange. The wind usually lies down, which turns lakes, bays, and even tide pools into mirrors. The crowds leave with the sun, so the shoreline is all yours. Dress for it with dark layers and one strong shape, like a hat or a jacket, and let the sky handle the color.

And you will not end up a shadow in front of a pretty sky. We bring our own light, so your face stays bright while everything behind you glows.

Sunset is the opener. Stay for the headliner.
